And if, finally, CD Projekt managed to forget the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077? After many updates, the arrival of the next-gen version and the release of the Edgerunner anime, the title seems to enjoy a good rating among players. A welcome comeback, because the trip to Night City is not over yet.

Cyberpunk 2077: even in Night City, redemption is possible

You already know the story: when Cyberpunk 2077 is released on consoles and PC in December 2020, it is the cold rain for many players. Crashes, freezes, translations that are not worthy, broken promises and lack of communication in the PS4 and Xbox One versions are all elements that make the launch of the game an example not to be copied.

After apologizing, the Polish studio chained the updates, to the point that sales of the game is the majority of the increase, and reviews on Steam have been positive. A few months ago, CD Projekt released the next generation version of the game, along with the free novelties in the field of content. It’s enough to satisfy PS5, Xbox Series and PC gamers, and make the experience even more enjoyable for the older generation.

But since September, the game’s popularity has exploded thanks to the release of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunner anime on Netflix. For more than a month after the release of the mini-series that does not necessarily have a season 2, the players more than a million people walk the streets of Night City every day according to studio data. More than a temporary effect of fashion, this resurgence in popularity allowed the title to find favor with players and passed the milestone of 20 million copies sold.

The studio will obviously take time to regain the public’s trust, but it still has it great ambition. During the presentation of its strategy to its investors, CD Projekt announced a new trilogy dedicated to The Witcher, and two more games, one of which is a remake under Unreal Engine 5 of the first opus. About Cyberpunk 2077, we know a lot that an extension, whose development is almost finished, will arrive in 2023 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.

But we also know that the game has a sequel, which is now known as Orion. It is the expansion of Phantom Liberty that interests us the most today, because Radek Grabowski, director of public relations, confirmed an important information on the microphone of GamesRadar+: Phantom Liberty is actually paid content.

(…) Regarding the price of the extension, we have not disclosed the exact details, but it will be paid. (…) Our expansions are traditionally cheaper than full-priced games.

So CD Projekt remains the difference between simple “DLC”offered free of charge during updates, and extensions (which is also DLC) paid for. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt experienced the same treatment, with several rounds of DLC offered to players, supported by two expansions: Hearts of Stone (€9.99) and Blood and Wine (€19.99). We don’t know the price of the Phantom Liberty expansion yet, but it should cheaper than the base game.

Presented by a trailer on September 30, the Phantom Liberty extension promises to be ambitious. We already know that we are find V and Johnny Silverhand, and that we will check out the new place located in Pacifica. We are promised a full story arc linked to NUSA (New United States of America), a new radio, new characters, and more. We just have to wait to know the release date of this extension, as well as its price.
