Available for almost a year, Halo Infinite went through all the states before landing on our consoles and PC. As the game prepares to welcome a big winter update, Microsoft has made its mea culpa and promises content that will meet expectations. The goal is simple: to recreate the enthusiasm around the Master Chief and bring people to the servers to enjoy a modified and corrected online experience!
E3 2018. During its conference dedicated to the event, Microsoft revealed the announcement trailer of Halo Infinite. This one, at best, is deliberately mysterious and marks a return with praise to the legendary Master Chief. Music, environment, warthog, everything is there! At that time, the presentation of this video takes place in front of the public and the assembly is completely under the spell (we want as proof the screams that suddenly broke the silence of the room) of this revelation made by Microsoft. A year later, in June 2019, the Microsoft Theater found the Master Chief in a new video that, again, caused a sensation. The game was then announced for the end of the year celebration 2020.
On July 23, 2020, Microsoft revealed 8 minutes of the single-player campaign. As the world was recently hit by a pandemic, the footage did not sit well with the fan community. The latter was disappointed and announced it, which led to further changes in development. The title will finally be postponed to land only on December 8, 2021 for the result that we know, some consider it up to scratch, others not at all. However, there is no denying that the extra year saved lives.
Microsoft Expresses Regret About Halo Infinite
During an interview on the Friends Per Second podcast, Matt Booty, head of Microsoft’s Xbox game studios, wanted to put things into perspective. While highlighting the incredible effort of the design team, he admitted that Microsoft still needs to do more.
In December (Editor’s note: when the game is released), I think we will peak at about 20 million players. Can’t praise the team enough for creating and bringing this game to market during such a difficult time, right? Last year, in the midst of a pandemic, everyone was still trying to figure out how to adapt to remote working and hybrid working. Trying to make a game, in such conditions, with a hundred people trying to finish it, is the worst thing I can think of. So, kudos to them for making it!
As we see these days, with a title like Halo Infinite, releasing the game is only the first step. You have to have a schedule to maintain the content, a regular, ongoing engagement plan, and we failed to do that. We went back and made some changes to the organization and management of the team. We really need to refocus on this regular addition of content and ensure regular updates from players.
So Matt Booty makes the comparison of a runner who stumbles several times before crossing the finish line in the lead. Undoubtedly, Halo Infinite has not received enough support since its arrival on Xbox Game Pass and in stores. Microsoft has acknowledged this by explaining that this is their responsibility and that they are now fully focused on fixing things.
With this update coming tomorrow, 343 Industries is looking to revive interest in the title. Thus, Xbox and PC players will be able to cross over the online co-op campaign. It is possible to form squads of three players and unlock twenty-four new achievements. Missions can also be replayed for anyone who wants to improve their performance. The update will also contain a new game mode, “Covert One-Flag” (you have to bring the enemy’s flag to his camp) as well as two new multiplayer maps. Finally, for all those who are waiting for the Forge mode, know that it will be released in beta version to be refined as it progresses. Hoping it’s more than just a start, Halo Infinite definitely deserves our attention.
