Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: The most amazing mode is also the most successful!

Game News Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: The most amazing mode is also the most successful!

That’s right, the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is available for everyone! Each player can now discover their new maps, modes and even play in third person. Yes, the famous FPS tried TPS. Something irrelevant here? We are not sure…

More news for Call of Duty 2022

Between “Zombie” and “Infected” modes, Call of Duty has proven more than once that it does not lack ideas (and humor) to change its multiplayer. But for Modern Warfare 2, a new opus released on October 28, 2022, there is something new that we did not see coming. The popular action FPS viewing software can now be contained in the third person, hand-held camera style, as part of its online games. Important clarification: this is not an option that can be activated or deactivated at will! TPS (“third person shooter”) sessions are considered a separate mode in Modern Warfare 2 and, as such, are exclusively compatible with the rules of Team Deathmatch, Domination and Hardpoint. Since the multi is constantly updated, it is believed that the third person can easily invest in other fronts.

TPS mode in a FPS yes, but why?

The first question is why! Why, in 2022, the Infinity Ward studio (at the origin of this Modern War 2) is testing TPS in a series that has always known the first-person point of view. Well, guess what, we know the answer! Back in September, we spoke with Geoff Smith – head of multiplayer design on the latest Call of Duty:

“As a developer, we always want to try things (…) when you play a third-person game, the experience is generally more approachable. You have more situational awareness, if you have on the cover you can see… We put a ton of work into this aspect, and it gives us another tool to change the experience after launch and maintain a freshness” – Geoff Smith, Multiplayer Design Director (Infinity Ward)

Of course, after twenty years of Call of Duty games every year, you have to rack your brain to find new innovations… If you’re wondering, Infinity Ward didn’t plan, at least less for now, to introduce the parties where TPS are players | FPS is mixed. “But it’s something we test during production,” says Geoff Smith. “We tried it as a bonus that could be used by the player, as aoptional option – We even tried the battles of one first person team against another in the third person”. So sure, sure, this TPS mode is not finished talking about him.

An amazing idea?

From our side, we believe that this new method of action in Call of Duty is one of the best surprises of Modern Warfare 2. Simply because – since the September beta – there has been a change: the camera doesn’t tilt as much as it should in first person when aiming. It all depends on the equipped zoom! If the latter is not strong enough, then the action of the games remains in TPS; If this is enough, like a sniper in particular, then we switch to FPS view. In the menus, there is also an option to make the second case systematic.

It might seem like a no-brainer, but it’s actually a great way to lend legitimacy to a mode that really needs it. And it works! The sensations in this mode are equally pleasing to those with a standard camera. Above all, in the words of Geoff Smith, our related to the playground changed a lot. The field of vision – so dear to Call of Duty fans – is actually much larger, which makes it possible to see beyond obstacles and blind spots. The very method of combat has changed, asking to play between the two axes on the shoulder camera (by pressing L3) to monitor what is happening in the distance. It’s familiar and different, plus accessible. In short, great idea.
