Video presentation – Citroën Oli: the unique and fun little SUV

With this concept, Citroën sets itself the goal of obtaining the best control of the life cycle by reducing weight through the use of recycled and recyclable materials, to obtain more long life, reliability and flexibility. To achieve this, the details are complicated. The Oli must not exceed 1,000 kg, 110 km / h, claim a range of 400 km or a consumption of 10 kWh per 100 km and be able to recharge its battery from 20 to 80% in just 23 minutes. Not obvious on paper. But when we saw him, we fell in love with Oli.

So yes, the Oli is an SUV, but a completely atypical SUV that is very original and above all disrupts the market but also the latest products of the chevron brand. To respect these highly demanding specifications, the teams of Pierre Leclerc, Citroën’s style manager, surpassed themselves.

From the first moments of discovery, the eye is immediately drawn to rectilinear forms. A strange cubic design that seems to contradict Citroën’s desire to design a very efficient car. However, that doesn’t seem to be a problem for him. The reason is simple, its weight is very inside.

Aesthetically, Oli is above all a face. In its center, we notice the new Citroën logo, which nods to the past with a border around chevrons and for once, it has color. This unique signature will soon be available on all models of the brand and at all dealerships. Then, we see the disappearance of the rafters that run across the entire width of the front surface until ending in the arrow-shaped projectors. Now, we have to deal with more geometric shapes. The projectors consist of a rectangle positioned vertically and it stands next to two horizontal light bars. You should get used to this because this organization will be used in the models. A real breakthrough for customers.

After this first surprise, we were also surprised by the horizontality of some parts, including the hood and the roof. Again, it’s the material that dictates the style. Citroën uses recycled honeycomb cardboard. It looks scary at first glance but this particular hard material can support a person’s weight. The horizontality of these two parts is different from the verticality of the windshield. Surprisingly, but here we are also told that it is lighter than a classic. The more observant will notice that it has three wipers.

The modularity of the rear part is extensive with many layout possibilities.

The originality is in the rear area, where we can find particular lights that are similar to the front lights. Citroën wanted to reduce costs by using the same parts and this is also the case with the same doors. Oli is a mixture of SUV coupe or pick-up because the rear part can be changed according to the driver’s good will. The side panel opens into a modular space with a rear window that can be tilted or left straight. If you fold down the rear seats, you benefit from a completely flat floor.

Access to a passenger compartment bathed in an orange tint thanks to two opposing doors with a central pillar. The front doors are worth a look. Their concave glass works like furniture doors from a Swedish brand.

It was very easy to maneuver and we noticed that it was broken open, releasing the large storage bins. The rear doors are not an extension of the first, creating natural ventilation. Like other models of the brand, they have windows that open wide.

Facing the driver, a particularly stripped down dashboard. Here, without a big screen, Citroën plays the detox card. The heart of the device is the owner’s smartphone, which fits into the dashboard. The information is reproduced by refraction of a slat across the width of the passenger compartment. The physical controls are reduced to a minimum with only five buttons in the middle. Others are concentrated near the steering wheel with the originality of a circular gearbox control around the steering column. At each end there will be two portable speakers, which of course can be removed from the car.

One of the axes of reflection is also related to the development and recycling of the car. Thus, the update of the multimedia system will be done through the customer’s phone. The device will always stay ahead of development. The same goes for the battery. Finally, to facilitate the repair, the replacement of worn parts such as carpets, seats, door panels, etc. simplified as much as possible. These parts should be easily repaired to be reused as soon as possible.

The circle in the center of the tread is a sensor that allows you to control the pressure in real time.

This concept emphasizes its simplicity but that does not mean that it is disconnected from any modernity, on the contrary. Thus, the Oli is equipped with connected tires signed Goodyear. Thanks to the sensors, it is possible to know the pressure of each tire in real time and to anticipate the risk of a leak. Finally, Oli will be able to transfer electricity back to the network, to the home or an accessory thanks to the V2G or V2L systems.

Of course the chances of seeing this concept on our roads as it is almost non-existent, but one thing is certain, some elements will soon appear in the production models such as the new logo or the front face . In the meantime, maybe with a little luck, we’ll see Oli on our streets. Remember the Ami concept, Citroën dared and it was a hit.
