While the upcoming Galaxy S23 and S23+ are not expected for several months, new renders have already given us the first look at the two smartphones. It may be entitled to a new design.

We’ve been hearing about Samsung’s next high-end smartphone, the Galaxy S23, for weeks now. The technical page of the latter is almost known, but until now we do not know whether or not Samsung will continue with the same design as the previous generation.

Now, thanks to new renderings from the famous leaker OnLeaks, which already revealed the appearance of the Galaxy S22 a year ago, we know that. Samsung intends to use a new design. As shown in the renderings, the Galaxy S23 and S23 + should be inspired by the particularity of the latest Galaxy S22 Ultra in terms of their photo sensors.

The Galaxy S23 and S23+ inherit part of the design of the Galaxy S22 Ultra

Instead of repeating the design of the previous generation, Samsung will equip its Galaxy S23 with a new look inspired by the 2022 high-end smartphone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra. On the back of both devices, we noticed that the photo module is completely missing. The three cameras of the Galaxy S23 and S23 + are now from the back cover of the smartphoneand therefore now consists of three separate islands.

On the front, there are few changes compared to last year’s Galaxy S22 and S22+. The Galaxy S23 will still feature a 6.1-inch display, while the Galaxy S23+ will get a larger 6.6-inch display. However, as the previous report of the leaker Ice Universe announced, Samsung should increase the size of the borders of the screens.

In fact, OnLeaks announced that the Galaxy S23 measures 146.3 x 70.8 x 7.6mm, compared to 146.0 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm. Although the thickness remains the same, Samsung will bring back its smartphone slightly longer and wider. While smartphone makers typically reduce the size of the bezels around the screen every year, this tends to result in thicker bezels.

At his side, the Galaxy S23+ should measure 157.7 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm, compared to 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.64 mm for the Galaxy S22+. Like his little brother, the smartphone is also 0.3 mm higher, but the width also increases by 0.3 mm. So the borders can be 0.15 mm thick on each side. Apart from the dimensions and cameras, the rest of the design is the same as the previous generation.

What are the technical characteristics for the Galaxy S23 and S23+?

In terms of technical specifications of the two smartphones, no major changes are expected. The main innovation of the devices is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which will be found in Xiaomi 13 and other Chinese smartphones from November. It seems that Samsung has finally decided to ditch the in-house Exynos chips in its devices, which it should let the Galaxy S23 sold in Europe be more powerful and energy efficient than the Galaxy S22.

At the battery level, we already know that the Galaxy S23 should benefit from a small increase of 5% in its accumulator capacity, which will have the effect of slightly increasing its autonomy. The battery can be expected to be around 3900 mAh, but that of the Galaxy S23 + should still be 4500 mAh. Both devices are still limited to 25W for wired fast charging, which was recently revealed by the Chinese certification body 3C.

photo side, Samsung should not improve its sensors compared to the Galaxy S22, because the latter is already taking advantage of the new cameras. We can find the main sensor of 50 MP ISOCELL GN5, an ultra wide angle sensor of 12 MP as well as a telephoto lens of 10 MP that offers a 3X optical zoom.

Finally, the two screens of the Galaxy S23 and S23 + will still benefit from a FHD+ resolution with 120 Hz refresh rate. Like their predecessors, it should still not take advantage of the LTPO technology, which would have allowed Samsung to significantly improve the autonomy of smartphones.
