Appearance of a 100% electric version
Appearing in 2009, the BMW X1 was a commercial success. Since its inception, 2.7 million copies have been sold, including 900,000 for the first and almost double that for the second. So the newest generation experienced a greater enthusiasm, either abroad or in France. In France, the X1 is the German manufacturer’s best-selling SUV and even the brand’s second most popular car among customers. Beyond the intrinsic qualities of the model, one reason can explain this success: the X1 is the most accessible BMW SUV.
The transformation of this X1 is strategic for the Munich company. After the raised station wagon appearance of the first generation, the second X1 of the name became stronger in the world of SUV and this is more the case of this new one gaining dynamism. It goes through the marked lines of the body of the hood, but also with a reduced roof. It is obvious that the newcomer uses the stylistic codes of the brand. Thus, like the Series 2 Active Tourer, the brand’s minivan with which it shares its platform, it sports a wider and taller grille. It differs from other models by the small details on the level of the bars, which make it simply unique. All this is accompanied by slender headlights that inherit a certain light signature that echoes the rear, especially consisting of several lights with a 3D effect that overflow the fenders and the boot.
Inside, we see the dashboard of the latest Series 2 Active Tourer characterized by a double curved digital panel that consists of a 10.25-inch screen facing the driver and a multimedia screen of 10.7 inches received the last operating system particular fluid. and nice to use. This new organization removes a large number of buttons and makes it possible to streamline the design of the dashboard. By being tactile, the screen leads, like the latest models of the brand, in the absence of the wheel that controls the multimedia system. The latter includes most of the controls and especially the air conditioning, but it remains easily accessible.
Another particularity of this interior is the presence of a floating central console that frees up a lot of storage space, especially below it. Some tricks like the ability to press your phone against the bottom of the center console during induction charging are still relevant. The assembly and the quality of the materials are very good standard.
As for the dimensions, the X1 is bigger on all sides. Therefore, the length now reaches 4.50 m (ie + 5.3 cm), the width 1.85 m (+ 2.5 cm), the height 1.64 m (+ 4.4 cm) and finally l wheelbase increased to 2.69 m, ie 2 cm more than before. Good point about the habitability and the practical aspects because it is possible to benefit from a sliding rear seat bench of 13 cm – unfortunately optional at 310 €) -. Please note that this does not apply to the electric and plug-in hybrid versions.
The trunk capacity is improved with this new generation. There is no flat floor when the bench seat is folded.
The number of trunks varies depending on the machines. With internal combustion engines, it fluctuates between 540 and 1,600 liters, ie 50 liters more than the previous generation. Count on 490 liters for electrified versions. The bench seat folds in a 40/20/40 pattern, but the floor is not flat.
