Led by a stratospheric Michael Stockton and a decisive Giovan Oniangue, Elan Béarnais offered the first success of the season at home against SIG Strasbourg (83-80).

After victories in Blois, Gravelines and Dijon on Friday night, Élan Béarnais launches its season with the reception of SIG Strasbourg this Saturday. Leading at the break after a complicated start to the game (14-27, 10′), Eric Bartecheky’s players were able to resist the half-hearted Alsatians to offer themselves their first success of the season in house (83-80).

The first part has two faces

From the start of the game, Lassi Tuovi’s players were very skilled (6/11 from 3-point) as Stan Okoye very effective (14 points and 4 rebounds for 19 evaluations), Eric Bartecheky was forced to immediately stop the game (6-13, 4′). Dominated in all aspects of the game, the locals saw their night opponents distance themselves in this first quarter (8-21, 6′). After ten complete control in the first minutes, SIG Strasbourg logically took the lead (14-27). In the difficulty of this first quarter, Palois was more aggressive in defense and took advantage of Alsatian’s mistakes to catch up (22-29, 13′) especially in the youth activity. Enzo Shahrvin (4 points and 7 rebounds). If the external address was on the part of the Alsatian in the first minutes, the SIG, very careless, lacked much success in this second quarter. In the wake of the trio Michael Stockton (17 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals for a 29 rating) – Garrett Sim (15 points and 4 assists) – Vitalis Chikoko (17 points and 3 rebounds for 13 evaluations), Pau took the lead for the first time in the game and led the break (44-41, 20′).

With character, Pau offered the first success of the season

Paloi returned to the floor with the same goal. Combative and efficient, Giovan Oniangue (18 points and 9 rebounds for 19 evaluations) allowed his team to maintain the advantage in this game (54-49, 25′). Dominated by intensity and gained 14 offensive rebounds in total, Strasbourg players had to rely on the impact of Matt Mitchell (17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists) to stay in touch. At the end of a very defensive third quarter, Élan Béarnais remained in control (64-57, 30′). Under the impulsion of Marcus Keene (18 points), the men of Lassi Tuovi put on a 7-0 entry to get 2 points (64-62, 32′). SIG found its address at the best time to get back in front (64-68, 33′). But Palois didn’t give up and the crossover continued in the last quarter (73-73, 36′). Michael Stockton, author of the double-double, continued his offensive festival and allowed his team to regain the advantage, before finding Garrett Sim alone in the corner to score an important 3- pointer. After a final mistake by SIG’s defense that allowed Giovan Oniangue to score a basket on the counterattack, EBPLO secured their first success of the season at home (83-80).

Strasbourg need to check their copy quickly as the second clash awaits them on Tuesday in Dijon.
