Federer’s tearful farewell

LAVER CUP 2022. Roger Federer’s last match will end in defeat. After a tight match, the Swiss, along with Rafael Nadal, had to bow out in a hard-fought super tie break where he will serve for the match, like Wimbledon in 2019. Crying, he said goodbye to professional tennis after a moving ceremony, in his image.

The requirement

  • This was not the end we expected, nor were the fireworks expected. For his last professional match, Roger Federer suffered a final defeat. In doubles with Rafael Nadal, Basel, who did not stop his commitment, won the first round but could not force the decision in a long undecided second action where he and the Spaniard sank in the tie break. The super tie break was hotly contested and made but the former Swiss world n°1 was unable to convert the match point on his serve, unlike Jack Sock, a few moments later. So with a defeat against the American and his compatriot Frances Tiafoe (7-5 6-7 9-11 in 2h14 ‘) Federer ended the chapter of his career.
  • Earlier, Team Europe showed their superiority with the victories of Tsitsipas and Ruud defeated Schwartzman (6-2, 6-1) and Sock (6-4, 5-7, 10-7), before the early reaction from Team Monde in the early evening by Alex De Minaur. The Australian ended up dominating a tough but fair-bodied Murray (5-7 6-3 10-7).
