But the main thing of the weekend is the return of Marc: I think he is at the top and will almost fight for the podium, because he is simply magical here and he has a lot of energy to give. I’m happy to change circuits because we did five days in Misano and I never had the good feeling that I can sometimes. And even during the test we worked well, but in still with difficult feelings for me and not the possibility to really enjoy the bike. That’s why I’m happy to change circuits and be more innovative in terms of feeling to get good results. “I’m not going to say a lot of new things because we’re just trying different settings and different things. I was very easy on everything we tried so I was positive that I could adjust to any set-up on the bike, but we never found where I could say “OK, this is my bike”. At least, as far as Misano is concerned. As I said, the one we tested for me was quite positive, but not all pilots have the same comment. For Pecco, because he feels so good now, trying something else for himself, he doesn’t want to encounter any problem because he feels that what he has is good. While I, just talking about Misano, can only be positive with some changes, because the base bike was not good for me in Misano. But I think having eight drivers giving different feedback will help for Gigi and the others. »

Do you think the test at Misano will be a kind of distraction for Pecco, while he is driving perfectly at the weekend?
“I think with experience you have to control those kinds of emotions. In Misano, it’s his home circuit and so it’s a kind of super training to do. We always complain that we can’t ride or we try to ride bikes, but it’s not the same as MotoGP. There, we had two days with good track conditions and MotoGP, so that’s what we love! I think he really took this extra practice to can control his bike. »

If you’re about half a second off the clock: is it something you can do or is it the settings?
“It’s always a combination of things but half a second in the qualifying lap is something where a driver can make a difference. Then the tweaks help you repeat that lap time with less power, so the tweaks help you get that consistency that you sometimes lack. »

Is Motorland Aragon a circuit you like?
I think it’s good to find a good circuit, because as difficult as Misano is for me, we can say that it allows a change of scenery with a different track.

Having a bit of trouble with Misano, have you found any solutions during the test?
” No ! The tests are used to test new things and we also make a lot of different changes. I manage to be efficient and fast enough in any option, but not as comfortable as I would like. And at the end, I was tired because the first day was still very hot. This year, Misano is not for me! As Schwantz once said “what do you like most about Japan? That’s when I take my bags and go home “, in Misano I think it’s the same (laughs). »

Psychologically, how do you prepare for each race?
“The experience! Experience, because thinking too much before a race is not good. It’s definitely bike time. After all, I think there is a way at the end of the week to stay completely in your subject, or sometimes to get out of it, and if you get out of it, it’s not good. Here you need to focus everything on one thing. I’ve done this in the past and sometimes I’ll do it again, but sometimes when the going gets tough, I have a hard time sticking to it because I get upset, and I walk out. In the end, it was worse. So, yes, a kind of “putting everything, head and body, for something” and not letting go. But here it is, it’s also not good to make it over the top. You have to have a free spirit to pay for some things. »

Is it difficult, with three consecutive Grands Prix coming now?
“It’s good that you don’t go off topic. After that, let’s say we’ll start, but at least we won’t have time to go and spread out somewhere else, because when we go abroad we’ll be alone with the person who came with us. We still make great trips and that, I, through experience, it brings me well. »

During the test, were you the one who tried most of the Ducati stuff?
“Not at all. Then, there, for example for Misano, in some tests I was more favorable because I had a lot of problems and I didn’t get away from it, when I tried other things I was more positive, while a Pecco went well in what he has normal with the fear of trying something else. That’s all, they have two different mentalities and it’s interesting for engineers too. I, thanks to the bad results, I am almost more open. Well, I call it bad results but in fact I have only missed one race since we resumed. Even at the point I only got 11 points for fifth place, but the recovery after the summer was very good and we can say that I just missed Misano. But when we miss one, we make a whole drama out of it. »

Do you have a technical problem?
” No ! No ! After that, I started to warm up the lap very slowly and I didn’t warm up my clutch. It’s possible, because we noticed that when it warms up a little, it grips more. There might be a little bit of that, because because in the picture it is a failed start, but in the clock it is the other faster and faster to start. So it is not easy to manage. »
