After the long-awaited launch of the series Rings of Power with the first two episodes, Prime Video returns to traditional broadcasting. Offbeat episode recap by someone who has seen both trilogies but knows nothing about it!
Rings of Power Episode 3! Generic with mysterious little grains but actually means something.
Arondir, kidnapped in the tunnel he went to investigate, wakes up shivering, lifted by two dogs. He’s with the Orcs, those beautiful creatures that roar and steal their look from Mad Max. He found his comrades in arms, also kidnapped and reduced to slavery condemned to dig ditches.
The other woke up shaking, it was Galadriel. He was on the ship with Halbrand. The Elf’s child was still sarcastic, as if his humor was inappropriate. They were among the military who looked at Galadriel as if from the moon. Not hostile, but not friendly either. And they entered the noble city of Númenor, a mix between Angkor and Mount Rushmore but with lush vegetation.
At the site, the reception was cold. Which leads to a little history lesson from Mistress Galadriel to student Halbrand: during the Great War, Halbrand’s ancestors were on Morgoth’s side; the men of notúmenor with the Elves. As a reward, the Valar gave them this island. End of story, as Elendil – the captain of the boat – comes to take them to present them to the Queen.
Beautiful decorations in the atmosphere between Central Asia and the Middle East. And Elle Déco is always in the back of my mind. Facing the Queen Regent, Míriel, Galadriel was still in a vengeful mood and understandably resentful of the prying eyes that landed on her. Galadriel comes to the meeting with high titles to say that she is nobody. And casually asked for a boat to leave as dry.
Begins a historical debate between Galadriel and the Chacellier Pharazôn in the history of notúminor. Not everyone seemed to fully agree on the question, which caused some tension… As a good diplomat, Halbrand cut Galadriel’s quid and offered to stay a few days. The proposal was accepted, Galadriel opposed. But Halbrand scores with Galadriel by returning the dagger he stole from Elendil’s waist. Smart kid.
Isildur is on the beach
Head to Isildur, Elendil’s son who is a sailor like his father. Younger. He was looking at his land in the distance and we heard a woman’s voice whispering his name. Shall we not enter The Odyssey by Homer? Is Isildur actually Ulysses and the voice of a siren? We are quickly brought back to reality with Valandil, a cadet and friend of Isildur who does anything with a rope.
The scenes of notThe úmenor is so beautiful it looks like a National Geographic issue. Arriving on the ground, the cadets are already dreaming of becoming officers. Isildur’s sister came to greet him on the beach. He kissed… the horse!
Meanwhile, Míriel receives Elendil in a private audience. And Míriel questions the loyalty of her soldier who brought Galadriel back to the kingdom. To test him, he asked him to do a favor by giving him a sword… None of this sign is good.
In the Southlands, Arondir seeks a way out of this hell among the Orcs. The other Elves noticed that the Orcs had found a leader they respected, an heir of Morgoth named Adar. The plan was simple: get out of the trench when the sun was high – because the Orcs would be ersatz vampires – and find help. But they get caught by the Orcs who are planning a coup and things don’t go well.
Being a good sadist, an Orc plays comfort and offers a drink to the three Elves. When they didn’t expect it he took the opportunity to slash the throat of one of them. Out of anger, Arondir offered to cut down the big tree blocking the canal.
on notActually, Galadriel finds a way to go off on a tangent but finds herself with Elendil in custody. While he was very kind, he took out his dagger to make his case. He understood that she was not against him when he spoke to her in Elvish, the language he learned in which he grew up. A place Elendil suggested he discover.
Galadriel rides a horse
And here is our Galadriel, happy as a child, ears to the wind, galloping on her white horse.
Also in Númenor, Halbrand tries to blend in and tries to get a job as a blacksmith. White cabbage. Without the corporation brooch, there is no right to forge. Halbrand goes to heal his sorrows at an inn where a group of blacksmiths come to trouble him. Smart, Halbrand offers them a round to thank them. And he made the most of the fun by stealing the famous brooch from the apron of one of them.
A sequel is inevitable. A good blow to the good and fit, but Halbrand inflicted it on four or five fellows with a succession of broken arms on the lot.
In the lands of Elendil, Galadriel does research in the library. There he discovered that the mark of Sauron was not a seal but a map of the Southern Lands. He realized that Sauron was planning his ascension and that the South Land was only the beginning of his plan.
Among the Pievelus, we sing, we dance and we prepare for migration. But Nori’s father still can’t walk with a broken leg. As for Nori, she was still distracted by the Stranger. He enters Sadoc’s house to consult his grimoire which collects constellation maps.
On the eve of the great departure, the Piévelus organized a vigil, an irresistible ritual before the migration. Zadoc made a beautiful speech that made everyone’s eyes explode by quoting everyone who had not been saved in the previous exodus. The Stranger then approaches to consult the map of constellations that Nori “borrowed” from Sadoc. This great clumsy set fire to it, wrapped itself in the tents of Pievelus and caused a general panic.
General Council. Nori took her suspenders off everyone. He and his family are at risk of being excluded. Zadoc’s judgment fell: they would not be included but would make their way to the end of the convoy, which was tantamount to condemning them especially to the father who could not pull their caravan.
Return to Numenor. Elendil has a family dinner with Isildur and Eärien, the latter’s brother. The dinner quickly turned sour when Isildur announced to his father that he was postponing his exams to become an officer. Elendil was angry and ordered his son to go to the upcoming meeting. But Isildur took advantage of the fact that he was looking away for a moment to leave.
During the night, Galadriel went to pay a courtesy visit to Halbrand in his cell and informed him that she had discovered his true identity. He is the only king of his people in the Southlands. He offered her an alliance between the two heirs to right the wrongs of their families who made wrong choices. He NEVER let go.
As for Míriel, she visits her father who we learn is imprisoned in a tower in Númenor because he is allied with the Elves. He made this interesting announcement:The moment we dread has arrived. The Elf is there.“
The Pievelus have begun their migration. It’s an ill-initiated affair for Brandyfoot if the father isn’t damned enough to put one foot in front of the other. Just as they are about to lose all contact with the other’s progress, the Stranger arrives and offers help with one word: “friends” in a little Irish music.
Among the Orcs, this is the time of rebellion for the Elves trying to free themselves from their chains. When they saw that they were losing the advantage, the Orcs pulled out their weapon of mass destruction, the Warg. A very pitiful creature that looks like a hyena. Arondir managed to weaken him long enough for his former captain to climb to the top of the trench. But when he reached the top, he was pierced by two arrows.
Arondir was overtaken by Orcs who were about to cut him down. But one of them gave him rest and ordered to take him to Adar. The one mentioned at the beginning of the episode. A figure approached as the orcs ducked in its path. The image is blurred but we guess it’s not Orc. Could it be an Elf? Answer (maybe) in the next episode!
