Let’s go to the credits of episode 4 of House of the Dragon with its rivers of blood just to get us in the mood.
And it started a scene that was embarrassing to say the least. Rhaenyra is presented with an endless line of suitors, all willing to marry her to get closer to the throne. The first to open the ball was older than her father, Rhaenyra was tired. The next one has more whey coming out of his nose.
However, the boy is not angry and offers his protection to the princess riding a dragon while the other suitor reminds him of teasing the young suitor. He called him a coward, too much for the boy who drew his sword, ready to defend his honor. As Rhaenyra left the room, tired of this scene, the young suitor stabbed her taunting enemy with his sword. The first blood flow in less than 5 minutes, we fit the standards of Game of Thrones.
On their way back to King’s Landing, Rhaenyra and Ser Criston Cole debrief the deck of Viserys’ predictable anger after he rejects all his suitors. And then, out of nowhere, a dragon lands and nearly capsizes the boat. Yes, Game of Thrones fans, remember that almost 200 years before Daenerys, these things were common.
The return of the king
In the crowded throne room, Viserys prepared for a public audience. But with whom? In Daemon, of course! He was first, sporting a new (80s) haircut. So he is the one pushing his dragon like a dragster.
He started with a favor: a sword that he threw on the ground to add to the throne. Dangerous gift. And against all odds, he knelt down and pledged allegiance to the king, his brother. He also came to boldly announce his victory over the Crab Gaveur. All while giving his crown to the king, a new level of DIY model of fake crowns that children imagine. Viserys hugged him and thanked him. Emotions and applause.
In the courtyard gardens, Viserys congratulated his brother. The polar atmosphere between Rhaenyra and Alicent eyed each other like a faience dog. And when Rhaenyra instead congratulated her uncle, she got a glare from her father. The heir to the throne dared to say one word… Oh la la… Name of Zeus. (Actually, Viserys is upset because his daughter is going home without a potential husband)
He goes to the side and Alicent tries a rapprochement by joining him. Successful strategy during an exchange where they make the bitter observation that their status is limited by their status and their ability to create heirs.
Shortly thereafter, Rhaenyra and Daemon meet again and their conspiracy resurfaces. The dear uncle did not fail to notice that his nephew had matured a lot in four years and tried to soothe his nephew’s bitterness with some jokes about life.
In the King’s Council, we are concerned about the alliances that Lord Corlys may make, having failed to forge a union between his (very young) daughter and the King. Which could affect Rhaenyra’s marriage.
Later that night, Rhaenyra discovers a mysterious package in her room: clothes for a page and a plan to sneak out of her room incognito. The secret passage leads to the cellar of the castle where the skull of the dragon Balerion is enthroned. With his pants, his shirt, his little jacket and his hat, he has all the looks of a Brooklyn hipster!
Unsurprisingly, it was Daemon who came out to greet him. He has a look borrowed from a Da Vinci Code fanatic. He then took her to the underworld district of Port-Réal. At the same time, Viserys wasn’t having much fun with Alicent tending to his festering wounds. Rhaenyra attends a street performance, a sort of live Twitter equivalent where she discovers that she’s not really popular with the crowd.
Places called Red Light District in Port-Réal
In the middle of the night, Viserys called his wife Alicent to his room. He is happy. The poor young woman fulfills her marital duty, with nothing but the contents of her husband’s passions, all purulent, lying on her. 1/ We have mercy on him. 2/ We would like to recommend a Betadine shower afterwards.
Daemon was also in the mood to let his urges do the talking. He takes his nephew to a luxurious house where everyone indulges their fantasies. The sentimental education of the Targayens is hardly Flaubertian. And so Uncle Daemon began to seduce and kiss his sweet niece Rhaenyra. Everything is fine. With a parallel montage of Alicent who doesn’t seem to be having much fun in the marital bed.

Apparently, Rhaenyra saw no objection to this, but Daemon at the last moment decided to stop what he had started and leave, leaving his nephew naked in the middle of it all. A boy saw the princess come out of the sulfur area and followed her.
Rhaenyra returned to the castle and her room guarded by Ser Criston Cole who didn’t understand something when he saw her coming as she crawled in front believing she was sleeping peacefully.
As he worries about her condition, she decides to play with him. He steals her helmet, lets her into her room and decides to make it four o’clock. At this time, Criston Cole pretended to resist or at least do nothing. A knight is shy. After some kind of long medieval striptease – yes, it took a long time to remove the armor – Rhaenyra tasted the pleasures of the flesh in the arms of her brave knight.
End of fun. Otto Hightower, aka The Hand of the King, receives a late visit from the boy who saw Rhaenyra come out of the House of Happiness. As for Daemon, he apparently woke up from a severe hangover on Mysaria, nicknamed the White Worm, his former wife-to-be. She left prostitution for intelligence.
The little protractor
Visibly uncomfortable, the Hand goes to the King’s room to tell him that his daughter is a whore. The announcement was clearly not made in these terms, but this is the idea that emerged. And he drives the point home by stating that “he flirted with his uncle“.
Viserys didn’t want to hear anything and didn’t believe a word of it. But Alicent, hidden behind a screen, didn’t miss a beat. It wasn’t long before Rhaenyra received a message from the Queen, so Alicent, to come and join her.
Shocked and angry, Alicent questions Rhaenyra about her behavior. Rhaenyra swore to Alicent that Daemon never touched her. In memory of his mother. (That’s not pretty, Rhaenyra). But this is the last argument to convince Alicent that he is suspicious and the master of virtue. The Queen couldn’t resist a little reminder about the importance of virginity, especially for a princess.
As for Daemon, he returns to the castle effortlessly and is picked up by soldiers who take him directly to the King. Lying on the ground, weighed down by his hangover, he responded to accusations of incest. He did not deny anything and asked his brother to marry his niece. (No, we never choked)
In retaliation, Viserys banishes Daemon and orders him to return to the Vale where his wife lives.
Back in his apartments, Viserys is disappointed. But Alicent convinces him that Daemon lied that Rhaenyra was innocent. Rhaenyra was summoned by her father. He lectures her about her dating and the responsibilities she has. And he ends by announcing his fate to her: marrying Laenor Velaryon, the daughter of Lord Corlys, is a political decision. He accepted on one condition.
Soon, Viserys received Otto Hightower privately. He confronts him about his personal interests: placing his daughter in the hands of the King. With this, Viserys reclaimed his title of Hand of the King.
That same night, Rhaenyra received in her room the Grand Maester who came to take her to a homemade preparation. A drink that should avoid “an unwanted situation”, translation: the morning after pill.
