MG4: the electric compact finally reveals its range and aggressive prices

We already know almost everything about the new 100% electric compact from Sino-British MG. Based on an unprecedented modular MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) platform dedicated to electric vehicles, the MG4 foreshadows the ultimate strategy of the manufacturer and paves the way for 10 models expected in 2025.

Designed by the London studio, the MG4 is characterized by an original signature with thin lights and raised indicators. The LED main and dipped beam headlights form six vertical bands. The chiseled bonnet breaks through a closed grille with sharp lines, while the front spoiler sits on the bow of the car. The styling comes in the design of the taillights consisting of 172 LEDs, with a Y shape and a constellation-type pattern above the light strip.

The ride height is relatively low with a sloping roofline that rises to only 1.5m. The overall length of MG is 4.28 m for 1.83 m in width. Three finishes, two engines and two batteries

At the entry level, the Standard version is equipped with a 125 kW motor (170 hp, 250 Nm of torque) powered by a 51 kWh battery for 350 km of autonomy (WLTP cycle). The Comfort and Luxury versions are equipped with a 150 kW motor (204 hp, 250 Nm) of torque powered by a 64 kW battery for a range that varies between 435 km (Luxury) and 450 km ( Comfort), according to the WLTP cycle.

In all cases, the speed is limited to 160 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is given for 7.7 s for MG4 Standard, 7.9 s for Comfort and Luxury finishes. In these two finishes, the maximum charging power can go up to 135 kW in DC, which allows you to go from 20 to 80% in 35 min. On the other hand, the smallest version is limited to 117 kW and the charging time is reduced to 40 min.

From the Standard entry-level finish, the MG4 offers a good level of equipment. Drivers can rely on level 2 semi-autonomous driving with traffic sign detection, emergency braking, intelligent high beam management, traffic jam assistance, fatigue detector and lane keeping assist and parking assist. The Luxury finish adds a 360° camera, rear collision and traffic warning, emergency lane keeping, blind spot monitoring and door opening warning.

A 7-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central touch screen occur in all finishes, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth, air conditioning and keyless start. An aggressive price offer

Main competitor, the Renault Megane E-Tech is shown at €29,200 (bonus deducted) with less autonomy. The VW ID.3 starts at €26,890 (idem) with a similar battery.

Among other announcements by the manufacturer, but without further details, we know that a version of 77 kWh will appear, as well as a sporty iteration of more than 400 hp with all -wheel drive and a 0 to 100 km / h shot in less than 4. sec. Finally, the long-awaited Cyberster electric roadster will be part of the next novelties.
