Insolent with 3-points, Germany took Greece out of the Euro!

Host country in this final round ofEuroBasketme’Germany’s should rub shoulders Greece on Giannis Antetokounmpo which hopes to reach the final four of “its” competition for the fourth time in its history, and for the first time since 2005.

Against this formidable Greek team, which dreams of reaching the semi-finals of the Euros for the tenth time in its history, and for the first time since 2009, the Mannschaft was able to stop the flow of teammates in Giannis Antetokounmpo (31 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals).

Thanks for the amazing performance of Dennis Schröder (26 points and 8 assists), cannot be blamed for his role as a national leader, and thanks to an excellent second half, dominated from head and shoulders.

Shaken, Greece turned away because of Giannis

In front of the boiling public of the Mercedes-Benz Arena, this quarter-final will leave in any case, very strong. This is evidenced in particular by the insolent success of the 3-pts of all Germans: 4/4 at the start, then finally 8/10 throughout the first quarter!

Despite the aggressiveness of the opposing defense, and especially the two-man (or even three-man) catchers, Giannis Antetokounmpo did not disassemble this bad atmosphere. In power, suddenly and one, the “Greek Freak” proved admirable in keeping the Greeks in touch. Altruistic, he also does not forget to serve his teammates unmarked, behind the arc or in the paint.

Still, after ten rhythmic minutes, Germany was ahead (31-27). Increasingly physical, the encounter then balances, but the Mannschaft remains in front, thanks to his devilishly effective collective attack.

Undaunted, Greece maintained a respectable gap over their opponent, grabbing several key offensive rebounds to do so. Valuable for their skills in 3-pts, Giannoulis Larentzakis and Andreas Obst will respond to each other in a duel of triggers but, as the clock is running down, the players of Dimitris Itoudis won over those of Gordon Herbert.

It took several shots on the accelerator from Dennis Schröder to revive the Germans at the end of the half, while Giannis Antetokounmpo and Tyler Dorsey brought the Greeks to the opposite camp. In the end, with a (very) far basket at the buzzer from Kostas Sloukas, the visitors took two possessions ahead of the break (61-57).

Greek ship falls in 3-pt rain…

Just like the start of the game, Germany came back from the locker room without being able to play offensively, where they put a lot of steps, and especially defensively, where they clearly improved a notch. Such an effective recipe should result in a score, because Greece got an offensive… 20-1 in seven minutes!

Without a solution and unable to respond, because mentally affected, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family found themselves falling on the scoreboard, while Franz Wagner and his teammates were in a state of grace, especially on 3-pts. Despite the wall of defenders standing in front of him (he suffered five people to be captured!), the “Greek Freak” tried to wake up his troops, in his own register.

But nothing helped: the gap really grew at the end of the third quarter (83-71).

Giannis and Schroder fired!

Without Giannis Antetokounmpo, left for a while to rest, Greece tried to prevent shock, even to take. Without success, which quickly forced Dimitris Itoudis to return to his Super star Playing games. Enraged, the “Greek Freak” struggles, but his teammates are in the hole, while the Mannschaft relies on a collective gala and continues to shoot in all directions.

In the end, after long minutes in which both teams surrendered punch for beak, it was the Germans won in front of a frenzied crowd (107-96). More importantly, just to drink the cup to the brim, Giannis Antetokounmpo was ejected five minutes from the end, for a second unsportsmanlike foul. Note that Dennis Schröder joins him moments later, due to a second technical foul.

Too skilled (17/21 on 3-pts, 18/21 on shots), too armed collectively (five players with 10 points or more) and too strong for the Greeks, Germany joined Spain in the semi- finals of “his” EuroBasket.
