“I hope this is a turning point and this is just the beginning! “, Sydney Sweeney wanted, double name for “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus”

He planned his career at the age of ten! When he grows up, he will become an actor. Nearly fifteen years ago, Sydney Sweeney was the rising Hollywood star to follow: after receiving the Madame Figaro Rising Star Award at the last edition of the CanneSeries, where 20 minutes he met, the young American was nominated for his impressive performances in The White Lotus and season 2 of Euphoria at the Emmy Awards. “And this is only the beginning”, hopes the one who will celebrate his 25th birthday at the ceremony this Monday night in Los Angeles.

Do you feel like you are at a turning point in your career?

I hope so! I hope this is a turning point and this is only the beginning!

‘Heroes’, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, ‘Sharp Objects’, ‘The White Lotus’ and ‘Euphoria’, you seem to have a knack for finding the right series. What guides your choices?

What guides me is the mix between an inspiring character, interesting and talented filmmakers, and the artistic personalities who are also involved in the projects.

What made you launch your production company, called “Fifty-Fifty Films”?

I always like to build my characters, so I thought it would be amazing to be able to build a whole world. I love reading books and seeing them all come to life. I want to give these writers and these characters a voice and create projects that I dream of doing, that I want to be a part of or see on television as a viewer. And that pushed me to start the adventure. I’m a very independent person, so I like things to happen.

What does the name of your company “Fifty-Fifty Films” mean in terms of the film industry?

I want this name to represent the way I collaborate on projects. That it expresses the fact that I think it takes more than one brain to make anything happen, that it’s about teamwork, everything you do, and I just want to represent that by choosing name of my company.

What made you want to create “The Players Table”?

After I read this book The Players table, I see all these characters living in my mind. The topics covered and the social issues are also relevant and I think it is important to discuss them on television. I just finished Euphoria and I’m close with Jean-Marc Vallée, I love what he did with Big Little Lies. I thought this project would be a nice mix of these two series. I got the rights to the book, I called him and we filed a lawsuit. We sold the project to HBO Max. We also met an incredible filmmaker, Annabelle Atanasio, who developed the series.

Can you introduce us to the character you will be playing on “The Players Table”?

I don’t want to say too much because we changed things a bit and explored the psyches of the characters a lot. Sometimes what you say is twisted… but let’s just say his mind is playing tricks on him and he sees things differently than other people do.

In this series, will you also do a duo with Halsey?

Can you imagine that filming in the west has just finished National Anthem. It’s amazing to work with a friend!

It’s like you wrote the backstories of the characters. What do you think of Cassie from “Euphoria” or Olivia from “White Lotus”? Do you want to write too?

I have written so many things about them that I cannot summarize! It’s like someone putting their whole life into a book. Many times in my life I have had the opportunity to sit down at my computer and tell myself that I am going to write the next great American novel. And then nothing comes out! But maybe one day!

Let’s talk a little about Cassie, your character in “Euphoria”, what are the characteristics of her personality that move you?

His search for love. He looks for love in many places, and sometimes in the wrong places. He cannot love himself. Finding a character that has to go through so much emotional turmoil is what makes it so exciting to delve into their psyche.

I have the impression that she only manages to exist through the view of others, and especially of men, maybe because Cassie doesn’t know her father… Isn’t that the reason for her being attractive and repulsive at the same time?

I think so too. I totally agree with you that she can only take care of herself if other men are taking care of her. He has this beautiful and tragic trait of wanting to be perfect for other people, because you’re always trying to find that perfection in yourself, but it’s for other people. Does that make you a good or bad person?

You said in an interview about Cassie that her body is used to communicate, can you explain?

It’s true. He always does. I don’t know if she was told this, but I think she knows that she can get men’s attention and desire with her body. It’s the only form of communication he knows how to get what he wants. And the way he moves, the parts of his body that he shows, these are all subtle words in his mind that he says to others. He didn’t know how to say it out loud, so he had to say it physically.

A lot of young adults are watching “Euphoria,” what do you think Cassie brings to them in terms of building?

I think Cassie represents a lot of things that people experience and feel and go through, regardless of age.

How do you hope it will improve?

I haven’t got the slightest idea.

Do you have a wish for him?

No no. It’s fun to be surprised to read Sam’s scripts!

Can you tell us about your upcoming projects?

I just finished filming the National Anthem. Then there’s Madame Web, for Sony and Marvel, to be released with Astra Clarkson.

Do you have role models, icons that you want to follow in their footsteps?

I have always loved the career of Meryl Streep, but I hope that I plan my own career path for myself and someone will say to themselves one day, I hope not to follow Sydney, but I do my own way.

You are the symbol of the power that women have in Hollywood right now, right?

I’m sure young women today have the opportunity to use their intelligence and creativity to express what they want and show what they want, and that’s amazing.

Reese Witherspoon, seen at the beginning of her career as a beautiful blonde, has become one of the most powerful voices in Hollywood… Does this inspire you?

Yes, I love working with her, she is an amazing woman, and I think I can learn from her.
