In a rare media release about the war in Ukraine, Ségolène Royal criticized Thursday, September 1 “war propaganda through fear”, specifically targeting the government of Ukraine. Above all, the former Minister of Ecological Transition questioned the many abuses committed by the Russian forces.
Among the crimes questioned by Ségolène Royal are the torture of prisoners, the rape of children, but above all the bombing of the Mariupol maternity ward, which was invented, according to her, to stop the peace process. “Everyone knows that there is a fear of war propaganda. If the first event is said, motherhood is bombed. When Mr. Zelensky toured the European parliaments, this is where the peace process breaks down. He used that, he said, “I saw a pregnant woman who said I was revenge.” He could not give the name of this woman, we do not know the names of the victims. and vYou would think that if there was a small victim, the smallest child with blood, in the age of cell phones we could have them.
Mariupol, a documented bombing
If war propaganda is not Moscow’s prerogative, the bombing of the Mariupol maternity hospital on March 9, denied by a former socialist official, is nevertheless documented. Contrary to what Ségolène Royal claims, there are images. They were taken by Associated Press reporters (then the last reporters in the besieged city) and amateurs. Contrary to Ségolène Royal’s claims, there were real victims, including a child.
One of the victims was a pregnant woman, who was evacuated on a stretcher under the cameras while she was still conscious, a gaping wound visible on her side. Rushed to another hospital closer to the frontline, doctors tried to save him, in vain. A surgeon interviewed by the AP explained that his pelvis was crushed, his hip dislocated. He first lost his son, whom he begged the doctors to save, before dying. “More than thirty minutes of resuscitation of the mother did not give results”, the surgeon explained to the AP.
CheckNews also tracked down Oksana Kirsanova, an anesthesiologist from a nearby hospital who managed to flee to Mariupol before the city fell. He was part of the medical team that tried to save the woman in question. Between tears and sobs, he told us: “Thus we brought this woman from the maternity ward whose bombing [le 9 mars, ndlr] well informed. I’m in the operating room. We tried to free her newborn, but unfortunately she was dead.
“In the hospital, there is a whole room full of female victims of the bombed maternity ward. They were all injured. One of them had his leg amputated, the other received shrapnel. We have to take care of their newborns, try to calm them down, give them bottles because their mothers can’t do it. These are hard and difficult times. We are trying to survive, we are operating.”
This is not the first time that Ségolène Royal has made such comments. On August 5, it was the last one said on Twitter : “NGOs are still waiting for proof of the alleged atrocities, places and names of the victims. Terrors that led to more war and halted any peace process: pregnant women and babies bombed, torture of prisoners, child rape victims: Where? When ? WHO?”
The Royal’s comments about Mariupol are completely in line with Moscow’s propaganda, which denies the existence of victims of the bombing of the maternity ward, which continues to provoke, through disinformation channels, a game. Claims contradicted by facts. Other abuses questioned by Ségolène Royal, such as rapes and cases of torture of prisoners, have been widely documented.
