How the pricing table works

The AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor, which takes place inside the Asus ZenBook S 13 Oled, has the particularity of bringing the new iGPU. AMD has integrated the Zen 3+ architecture of Ryzen with a graphics part equipped with RDNA 2 cores from the Radeon RX 6000, which has the key to a significant gain for the graphics performance of Ryzen.

The Ryzen 7 6800U is the only low-power processor that sends 12 computing units, called Radeon 680M, while the Ryzen 5 6600U is content with six units called Radeon 660M. AMD also rejected RDNA 2 cores in processors of 35 Watts and more. However, most of them are bundled by laptop manufacturers with a dedicated GPU and therefore are not used in gaming.

During its presentation in January at the CES high-tech trade show, AMD was full of praise for the capabilities of its new iGPU, which we also saw during the ZenBook S 13 Oled test.

First, we compared the performance of the Radeon 680M in the Ryzen 7 6800U in the ZenBook S 13 Oled with the iGPU (Vega 7) Ryzen 5 5500U from AMD, which was in the ZenBook 13 Oled tested last year. , and with Intel’s Iris Xe, is on the Core i7-1280P in the Laptop Framework, using the three games we use to evaluate iGPUs.

By playing Diablo 3 at 1080p with all details maxed out, the Ryzen 5 5500U’s Vega 7 iGPU gets 29 fps; for its part, the Iris Xe releases 35 fps and the Ryzen 7 6800U 65 fps. In the latter, it is possible to increase the definition to gain comfort, because the ZenBook S 13 Oled panel has a resolution of 2880 x 1800. Be careful, also at 1080p but with a 100% preset, the iGPU Vega 7 goes up to 45 fps, the Iris Xe offers 75 fps, while the Radeon 680M soars to 124 fps. Last attempt at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at 1080p, with the specifications set to the minimum: the ZenBook 13 Oled and its Ryzen 5500U did not even finish the benchmark, the Iris Xe got 27 fps on average and the Radeon 680M reached 33 fps.

But we want to go a little further, by submitting the Ryzen 7 6800U to our full gaming panel, which helps define the GPU performance index of laptops. This panel includes Call Of Duty Black Ops, Control, Cyberpunk 2077, GodFall and The Medium. Only missing: Metro Exodus EE, which uses Ray-tracing by default and will bring the iGPU to its knees, even at the lowest settings. We made a major concession, however, by keeping all settings to a minimum with presets available in games.

In our games panel, the Radeon 680M on the Ryzen 7 6800U performed well, with over 30 fps on average. The activation of FSR offers a considerable gain in fluidity, and in some cases, it allows to raise the level of details a notch, especially in pious.

The synthetic benchmarks confirm the results we got in the game. As announced by AMD, we saw almost a doubling of performance when going from the Vega in the Ryzen 5000 to the Radeon 680M in the Ryzen 7 6000. The Iris Xe from Intel is between the two AMD solutions, with a significant advantage in terms of the graphics driver for the red ones.

The switch to RDNA 2 architecture in the Ryzen 6000 offers a good performance boost. All the games on our panel are tested and fluid, with compromises in specifications of course, although nothing prevents us from choosing less demanding titles. With the iGPU in its Ryzen 6000, AMD has a significant advantage over Intel’s Iris Xe, mainly because the latter does not need to be updated for some time.
