It’s hot, it’s getting hot, Passi sang in 1997. And when it’s really hot, we stay at home, in the dark, with fans to play independent games! “Air, air” howled L5s back in 2002, but we’re bringing you a breath of fresh air thanks to talented developers. Here’s our pick of indie titles, with a wide variety of genres, arriving between August 1 and 5, 2022.

The Mortuary Assistant

Developed by the small team at DarkStone Digital, Mortuary Assistant puts you in the shoes of a mortuary science graduate cutting his teeth at the River Fields morgue. By manipulating the dead and striking the shoulders of death, nothing seems to surprise you. Until the appearance of entities that seem to have no good purpose wakes you up from your lethargy. It appears that River Fields Mortuary was chosen by demon-possessed families to bury their deceased loved ones there. Only one rumor meant to scare the patrons is true: demons lurk here. The Mortuary Assistant offers to practice embalming as well as various jobs related to the maintenance of a morgue and a body. But also and above all to expel demonic forces, which cannot be learned in school books.

South of the Circle

In the case of South of the Circle, we cheated a little. The title designed by the State of Play studio (excluding PlayStation) is actually published by 11 bit studios, to which we owe Frostpunk, The War of Mine, Moonlighter. Like Devolver, the publisher specializes in promoting independent games. As such, South of the Circle is a narrative game set during the Cold War. Instead of focusing on the conflict, the app focuses on the relationship between Peter and Clara, two academics facing important choices in their lives. Described as an “emotional” narrative experience with “a deep cinematic story”, the adventure produced by State of Play offers voices recorded by the actors who filmed Bohemian Rhapsody, The Crown , Game of Thrones or even Chernobyl. With an excellent artistic direction, South of the Circle will be a great surprise this summer.
