Black weekend on the roads for the holiday crossover

The famous crossover is this weekend between the Juilletists and Augustians!

Whether heading south for departures or north for returns, the situation can be very difficult: roads can be busy all over Europe. (Source Touring).

In the direction of departure, the Friday traffic is already heavy with long lines from noon. Saturday was a day classified as black in France with heavy traffic jams heading south. In Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Spain, these days will be classified as red: very difficult traffic with high traffic. On Sunday, traffic will remain very heavy in Germany, Switzerland and Italy. On Monday, there will be heavy local traffic in France and Switzerland.

With us, very heavy traffic with possible traffic jams Friday afternoon and evening as well as Saturday morning on the E40 between Brussels and the Coast and the E411 Brussels-Luxembourg. Traffic will also be dense with the risk of slowing down on the Antwerp and Brussels ring road, on the E19 Brussels – Mons – Valenciennes with a possible check at the Hensies border post and on the E40 Brussels – Liège – Aix-la- Chapel.

Saturday then a dark day southbound with extremely heavy traffic. Traffic gets heavy from dawn and continues till early evening. All motorways leading to Brittany, Normandy, southern France and Spain will be congested. The biggest traffic problems are expected in the Rhone Valley (the A7), the motorway along the Mediterranean (the A9) and the Paris – Bordeaux – Spain motorway (the A10).

  • In Switzerland the Gotthard tunnel (16.9 km) risks being saturated this weekend. (A2 Motorway).

    Sunday, very difficult traffic on the roads around the Mediterranean with high traffic congestion and difficult traffic with some slowdown in the rest of France. Between 9 am and 4 pm the traffic will be the heaviest.

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Spain

  • In Germany, it is the start of school holidays in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Thursdaytraffic will be congested but is flowing south.
  • On Friday, routes will be loaded in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In Italy and Spain, no problems are expected.
  • Saturday, should expect more problems on the highways in the direction of the holiday areas.
  • On Sunday, traffic will be very difficult to the south of Germany, Switzerland and Italy. In Spain, traffic will be difficult with some slowdowns. In Austria, no problems are expected.
